Biography

Amr Maghraby (b. 1992), based in Alexandria. He holds an MA in Painting from the Faculty of Fine Arts, Alexandria University, and studied contemporary art at MASS Alexandria in 2014. Since 2012, he has been a founding member and developer of Bab 10 Art Space in Alexandria.

His practice integrates various mediums, focusing on the research of intersections between economy and memory, using various historical contexts to investigate how financial systems and exchange mechanisms shape social memory and the collective imagination. In his practice, traditional forms like drawing and sculpture form the human core of his work, while he integrates non-traditional practices such as 3D scanning and VR to expand the narrative and structural possibilities of his visual language.

Maghraby’s practice is his primary tool for navigating personal challenges and understanding his place within society. His work was exhibited locally and abroad in several group exhibitions, including the Cairo Youth Salon (2018, 2021), where he received the Encouragement Award. Other participations include the Inside Out festival in Jordan (2019), the MASS Alexandria annual exhibition (2015), and Roznama competition and exhibition at Medrar for Contemporary Art (2015).
